Elle interviews author of The Art of Losing

In a feature on its Culture blog, Elle magazine recently interviewed Rebecca Connell, author of The Art of Losing. Connell's novel is about a young woman plotting revenge against the man she blames for her mother's death almost twenty years prior. The story is told in alternating chapters from the perspectives of both characters.

"At its most thrilling," Elle magazine writes, "The Art of Losing comes tantalizingly close to 'Singe White Female' melodrama, but the novel's greatest charms lie in its intricately plotted character studies...Connell explores the crushing weight of grief, the fragility of memory, and the corrupting power of infidelity."

Europa Editions launches Tonga Books

Europa Editions has launched Tonga Books, a new imprint focusing on dark, literary titles to be acquired and curated by Alice Sebold, author of The Lovely Bones.

TONGA hopes to cultivate voices that may go overlooked by larger publishing houses that are often unable to pursue edgier material.

TONGA’s definition of edgy is more in the material of the novel than it is in its presentation. We are unafraid of dark material. We are interested in depth.

The first TONGA title will be 'You Deserve Nothing' by Alexander Maksik, a student at the Iowa Writers Workshop.
