Independent publisher Europa Editions, with offices in Rome, London, and New York, is seeking a Director of Sales, Digital Marketing and Business Development to join its New York team. The successful candidate will take responsibility for sales growth and business development in North America and report directly to the publishers.

Known for publishing best-selling authors such as Jane Gardam, Elena Ferrante, Alexander Maksik, Christelle Dabos, and Muriel Barbery, with a highly curated list of fiction, young adult fiction, nonfiction and upmarket mysteries, Europa is one of the leading publishers of international literature in the country.

Europa is seeking a highly organized, extremely motivated candidate with extensive experience and a proven track record of success in national book sales, marketing, and business development.

Primary Responsibilities

• Managing sales relationships and maintaining contacts with senior management at all national retail, library, and academic physical and digital vendors; • Serving as Europa’s main point of contact for our distribution partners (Ingram/PGW) in all matters relating to sales, distribution, and inventory management; • Pursuing with gusto new sales models, vendors, and opportunities for growth; • Creating, implementing, and tracking programmatic promotions to increase POS and market share; • Working closely and communicating with publishing, publicity, production, and other internal departments regarding list development, schedules, and sales targets; • Participating in title planning, including launch strategy, preparing and presenting upcoming titles seasonally to domestic, library, academic sales force and retailers; • Addressing warehousing, work order, and fulfillment issues as they arise; • Supervising sales assistants and/or interns; • Attending conferences and conventions as needed as well as maintaining and nurturing relationships with key field accounts.


• 10+ years of experience in book sales and marketing • Supervisory experience and a collaborative spirit • Familiarity with sales reporting, inventory, and metadata management systems • A genuine interest in international literature and the north American book market
