New York

New Literature from Europe Festival: "Europeans Behaving Badly"
Most Americans don’t give much thought to "Old Europe’s" errant ways, but this year’s New Literature from Europe delves deeply into bad behavior. Following examples set by writers such as Michel Houellebecq and Elfriede Jelinek, authors from Germany, Spain, France, Italy and the Czech Republic will offer a refreshing alternative to our view of a Europe dominated by order, cleanliness and affable shopkeepers.

Now in its fourth year, New Literature from Europe is a joint event organized by the Goethe-Institut New York, the Instituto Cervantes, the Istituto Italiano di Cultura, the Czech Center New York and the Cultural Services of the French Embassy.
